Slashdot: “It’s Battlefield Earth bad…”
Revenge of the Sith is one of the worst movies I’ve seen recently. It’s Battlefield Earth bad.

Well, that sort of put me off bothering completely, I still haven’t watched Clowns, so unless someone I trust strongly recommends Ep III to me I’ll likely not bother.
Anyone seen it that thinks I ought to go see?
I saw it last night. It won’t end world hunger or change my life, but it was a fab film and I think you should go and see it.

Thought you said a while back after reading a bad online review of hitchhikers that you weren’t going to pay any attention to it and judge by watching it?
I’m not saying it’s any good - ep1 wasn’t, so I didn’t bother with 2 or 3. But I’d want to see it myself before saying yay or nay, no?

The “bad” hitchhikers review was a “fan” who was mostly complaining about the changes rather than reviewing it as a film.
But with Ep II, I’m put off because I was soo bad and II was slated by so many I didn’t bother, therefore I’m not keen on spending time/money on III.
But, I can be convinved by people who say it’s good. Sal is a vote in favour, so I might consider it, but it’s a different context; a review that looks at in on the terms that interests me is always worth reading, the Guide review didn’t, and I ended up disagreeing with it, as I suspected I would.

Episode II was alright. Not awesome, but it had some fun moments. The people who bitch hardest about the new Star Wars films are the same people who go on about how much better children’s TV was when they were a kid than it is now. (Who the fuck has the time to watch kids TV, anyway?)
They seem to have forgotten the fact that they’ve grown more discerning as adults, and swathe their memories of the popular culture of their childhood in sickly nostalgia.
“Phantom” & “Clones” don’t seem as good as “Empire” & “Return” because you’re no longer seven years old.
Right, rant over: I liked AoTC, and I suspect I’ll like RoTS. I don’t expect much more than a pile of lightsaber fights, flashy special effects and Natalie Portman being fit but failing to act, but I don’t care. If I wanted something with clever scripting and a good plot, I’d watch something highbrow - but from a Star Wars film, I just want to see Yoda kick some arse.
Bugger it, I’m ranting again.

I’m surprised at you relying on a review, Mat. I would have thought if the film held enough interest for you to go searching out reviews and to make this post on LJ, then it was worth going to check out for yourself.
Myself? Well, on my friends page I’ve been told that it’s fantastically awesome, that it’s excruciatingly terrible, and most of the shades of grey inbetween. A lot of the allegedly professional reviews I’ve read replicate this ambivalence. So, I don’t know what to think. But I hate being told what to think by reviwers anyway, so I’m hoping to see the film, and to decide for myself, sometime this week.

Personally, I found Ep I to be crap, II to be reasonable, mainly salvaged by the joys of yoda being hard, and III to be pretty good. And yes, yoda is verily hard. Watch it, make up your own mind.

See, that’s the problem. I’m attacked with apathy when it comes to Star Wars; part of me feels I ought to care about it, but I really don’t, but am trying to persuade myself otherwise.
I’m not relying on a review, I’m sort of looking for something to inspire me into caring. Barry’s right, I’ve grown up, and I just don’t care as much as my nostalgia thinks I ought to.
The post was mostly inspired because the quote made me actually laugh, so I wanted to share it; if you haven’t watched Battlefield Earth yet, or read the book, try to do so. Both are truly awful in implementation, despite the basic premise being fairly good.
I wathced Battlefield Earth recently, and it truly is the worst film I’ve ever watched (well, out of those actually trying). Hence the wanting to share the quote.

Have you seen Dominator yet?

So I guess you don’t want to hear my opinions on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory anymore?
Your choice. You could paas on an observation to Barry that I’m trying to help Mark through the depression he’s so blatently suffering from, and think him having a very visible project that he can work through that requires him leaving the house may be useful for him. I’d have thought you’d have noticed the obvious symptoms. ah well; your choices in life are your own.
