Idiots online

Ladies and gentlemen. I present the death of intelligent humanity. Three posts, on the same LJ community, all of which boil down to a complete inability to either look things up, check the help files or indeed think!

I’m normally very willing to help give advise, but just look at her comment responses “I can’t restart my PC, I’m watching an eBay auction that will end in under an hour”, etc.

It’s not that she’s asking for help. It’s her complete inability to think for herself and/or understand basic answers that really got to me…

  1. I’m on that and boy do i agree. I’ve sat on my fingers telling her the solution to all her problems is to give the fucking computer to someone who knows what they are doing. I mean come on.. she didn’t understand reboot it?

  2. It just annoys me; I have many good friends who don’t get computers; this confuses me but I help, etc.

But all of them at least try to think, look something up, etc. Automatically posting to the world and proclaiming your inability? Gah!

Aside; I turned up in a random post generator or something?

  4. Ah lol, you appeared on my friendsfriends page and I’m up late and in a spammy mood.

  6. Fair enough; you have reminded me of the joy of the friendsfriends, which I keep forgetting to add to my links list. Insomnia is my problem…

  7. Insomnia is my pleasure and my curse, luckily I have nothing to do tomorrow, however normally it destroys me doing my school runs etc. Thank god for the odd sleeping pill.

  8. One useful acronym
    PEBCAK.

Dear gods… most computers these days are idiot proof, so it’s not hard to fiddle around with things and find out (and possibly remember) where the ‘turn cookies on’ and ‘forgotten password’ buttons are.

  9. Precisely. The best of it is she’c complaining about Javascript and trying to turn it off, when it’s the lack of javascript stopping her from logging in. Ah well.

Did you type (Reply to this) or is LJ messing up?

  10. I commented, copied it, deleted it and recommented with a different usericon because I wanted to change it. Must have got the text from the hyperlink too.

  11. Fair enough; I keep forgetting to change icons when commenting; the whole point of loads of icons is to use them for comments, but I keep forgetting.

  12. You’re using my icon, omg.

    Hello.
