  2. I thought Shatner instantly, and then Shakespeare about half a second later. I suspect that my reason for thinking that way was because when I read it, I sounded it with a short “a” in my head. I therefore did an autocomplete based on the sound, which gave me “Shatner” and only then started doing an autocomplete based on the letters (which gave me Shakespeare). So I suspect that this is as much a selection for visual or auditory information processing as much as (if not more than) it is a test for geekhood or otherwise.

  3. Aaahaha, I didn’t want to do it until I’d seen what they meant.

I didn’t even think of Shakespeare.

  4. If you’re using the LJ update page, just click ‘add poll’ and follow the instructions, it’s one of the few bits of LJ that is genuinely user friendly.

So far, no one has said Shakespeare, and that includes some literary types. ’s answer (below) is best I think.

  5. That’s better than my answer to Jack, which was that he’d used the word Geek in the intro, instantly making me think of Shatner. I tried to keep my intro completely neutral, thus far, every vote is Shatner.

We’re a bunch of geeks in denial methinks…

  6. To which the obvioous retort is ‘did you think at all’? ;-)

  7. What about Martin Clunes’ character William Shawcross in the ITV drama William & Mary?

    Seek even more help?

  8. Um. *thinks*

Young. Or simply TV addicted. Either way, my elitist non-tv watching 30+ness beats you.

  9. I thought Shatner first mainly because the last thing I saw on TV tonight saw that damned All Bran advert.

Also, I saw it as a short ‘a’ too.

  10. “my elitist non-tv watching 30+ness beats you.”

It’s not quite MQ-able, as no one would understand, but it’s good enough for my msn tagline.

    Congrats!

  11. I’ve still not been MQ’d. But happy to make you chuckle anyway.

  12. Eh? I wasn’t trying to get ‘one up’ by suggesting this rather obscure William Sha*. It was another name which began that way (although this was about 5 minutes after I thought of Shakespeare).

The ‘non-TV watching’ bit was slightly misleading as Shakespeare usually belongs to the printed page whereas Shatner usually belongs to television.

  13. That was me being snarky, not bitchy. Fred got it ;I was more answering the question and showing my bemusement, I had no idea Clunes had ever played a TV doctor becasue I’m out of touch, etc.

  14. This is exactly what I was going to write. Not a fair test! ;)

  15. The funny thing is,for me, I didn’t even think of Shatner until a bout 10 seconds later. I saw the quiz and thought “What, is this a test to see how many people know shakespeare’s full name? How silly.”

I hadn’t grasped the interesting psychological undertones until I saw almost EVERYONE picking tner.
