Damn fine coffee

Urbandictionary.com:

Pete Martell: “How do you like your coffee?”
Special Agent Cooper: “Blacker than midnight on a moonless night.”
Pete Martell: “…pretty black.”

Special Agent Cooper: “MMM, that’s damn fine coffee!”

Always did disagree with Coop about how to take coffee. It should first be made as black as midnight, but then? You need to add a little something special.

I mentioned my fridge is broken, right? I can now afford to replace it, but I’ve got used to not having one, and, well, I’m almost certainly moving soon so pointless. Anyway, last night, I made myself a cup of coffee, but the milk was off. Pas de problem, I can do something special. Y’see, Tesco seem to have over ordered Carte d’Or Vanilla this summer. Normally, a little pricey, and not a brand I normally get, nor a flavour (Green and Black’s Orange Chocolate please. Or Ben and Jerry’s). But, if it’s on two-for-one? I’ll buy that for, well, a bit more than a dollar TBH.

Mat, what has ice cream to do with coffee?

Well, y’see, little trick I picked up on from a Slovenian friend (really should have tried to keep in touch with her, ah well). Instead of adding milk, add ice cream to your coffee. She called it ‘iced coffee’, but it’s not Greek Frappé style, it’s real ice cream in real coffee. The more expensive the ice cream, and the better quality the coffee, the better this works.

Put in about two spoonfulls of ice cream into a nearly full mug of coffee, stir gently and allow to melt. Use a spoon to eat the froth off the top, then drink the coffee. The froth? A mixture of cream and coffee taste, much better than from a latte or a cappucino. The coffee itself? Soooo gooooodddd…

I’m about to make my second mug of this evening. Um, this may effect my ability to sleep properly this week. Ah well, off work next week, of to Londres. ? We may need to investigate a cheap way to get you a freezer compartment for some ice cream.

  1. Costa Coffee do this. They call them Frescatos (frescati?) which, when you can see how they make it, seem to be nothing more than a shot of espresso with a scoop of ice cream.

  2. Hmm, interesting. There’s a Costa in the local Ottakers. Um, coffee shop in a bookshop? That may be bad for my wallet.

But if it’s just espresso and ice cream it’s different, still likely to be interesting though.

  4. I don’t recall how big it is TBH, but we’ll see.

Not sure yet whether to come up Saturday, Sunday or Monday; there’s a Warlord Tourney in Barnstable on Sunday that I ought to go to really, need to figure it out.

  5. Yes, you really ought to.

  6. Well, if you come on Saturday or Sunday, you’d best do it in the morning, or else meet me in London, where I’ll be in the afternoon and evening.

  7. It’s a waste of good ice-cream, or even bad ice-cream, youfilthy coffee drinking freak.

  9. Bah, you’re rubbish at replying to texts. Toby is driving down so that’s sorted out (though the excitement of navigation remains.) I even have a Dwarf deck built and ready to go for you. And the rumour is the Rob Crowe doesn’t play anymore.

Just come! Laurence and me talking crap for an hour in the car is an opportunity not to be missed!

  13. pity I have no ice cream and
Well, it’s on offer, but it’s still not cheap. It’s a replacement for milk, really…

    *little cough* no coffee either.

bbbbut… You sell coffee. That makes no sense!

Have you decided when you’re gonna be in London yet?

Probably up Sunday evening, and then travel back the following Sunday evening, but nothing is decided finally as I’m making it up as I go along.

you coming in the train or the car?

Probably car as I haven’t booked anything, plus I can carry more stuff (ie the computer) if I drive, but not sure.

Am I going to see you whilst your around?

Hopefully; you can’t make either of the events then? But I’ll be up for at least 5 days, probably 7, so should be able to either come out or meet in town or summat; Lucie starts college again next week I think?

If you want to stay for a night in reading I have a guest room now.

Ah, cool. She who annoyed moved out like you thought she would?

  15. I know I sell coffee- tis just that i forget to get my freevie most weeks at the moment. Silly me. As soon as I remember to grab it I shall buy some ice cream and indulge. Alternatively I have both coffee and vanilla ice cream at work so when I go back on Wednesday I shall have some then.

I cannae afford to go to either of the events sadly. :o( Immensely tight month as had to pay deposit for the ‘guest room’. Bah. if you want to come over then Sunday evening or monday would be better as I’m off monday and tuesday. If I could get hold of Lucie to organise seeing her then hat would also be quite good.

Call me sometime to organise- tis easier that way as only have limited internet time here at mummys.

  16. Er, might be off for a round of golf in the afternoon (how posh am I?) But nothing after that. Feel free to text/ring if you wanna do something (don’t bother posting here, i won’t check it for the rest of the weekend): if it helps you can probably come down Saturday, park the car and crash overnight then catch a ride on Sunday.

    Chris
