Make your choice

Right, comments to my last post reveal that far too many of my friends lists are uncultured barbarians who don’t appreciate good coffee. This is no good at all. Something must be done.

In the meantime, I want to find out what else you’re all making the wrong decision about. So I thought I’d poll it good.

It’s a big bunch of either/ors. Like all good polls, there’s no sitting on the fence, make a choice. I’d have posted more, but apparently 15 is the limit.

Might do some sort of meme quiz thing out of it if I can figure out how to code one, I’ll get there eventually…

  2. And I still hate coffee. Although it does smell nice.

    Comment by nadriel | September 21, 2006

  3. Okay, I filled it in. Now what do I win Mr Mat?

    Comment by draich_goch | September 21, 2006

  4. Tea is THE drink, coffee is for hangovers!

And strange people who wonder why they can’t sleep at night, which they spend making up silly polls for their friends to fill in.

  5. Don’t worry, I heart coffee too :)
Especially the little shops in France where you go in and the walls are lined with bags and bags of coffee beans. You can choose what you want (for example, by going in and saying ‘I want something strong but not too bitter and with an x aftertaste’) and they’ll choose the right coffee for you, then grind it for a cafetiere, for a coffee machine, or not at all according to your request. It’s like Whittard but better :D
None of this artificial crap that Nestle churn out for me :)

  6. There was a market stall like that when I worked in Salisbury, my boss thought it was funny until he drankt he coffee I made, the area manager complained about our petty cash spend on coffee, but seemed to drink a lot while he was there.

manages a Whittards, when I can afford it I buy stuff from them, but mostly I stick to good fair trade instant, the difference between it and medium level ground is really imperceptible, it’s far superior to crappy instant.

Work recently cheapened their supply of coffee, it’s now unbranded powdered crap. The catering buyer wondered why we’d stopped drinking as much until she saw the petty cash bill…

There are too many tea drinkers above though :-(

  7. Nuthin. Yet. Especially as half yer answers were wrong, ya weirdo.

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  8. I would have liked very much to reply ‘Both’ or ‘It depends’ to a lot of those. For example, tea happens before 6pm and coffee happens afterwards. And I drink pretty much equal amounts of beer and gin and tonic. I was born to sit on the fence, I think.

    Comment by el_staplador | September 21, 2006

  9. I don’t like either tea or coffee, though like nadriel I do like the smell of coffee.

    Comment by tiredstars | September 21, 2006

  10. You’ll learn. We’ll force feed you good stuff until you relent. It’s going to happen.

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  11. Which is why you don’t get the option. It’s a visceral thing, what the gut says or what, if you had a straight choice at, say 5.59pm, what do you choose?

Besides, it’s just fun. I’ll do some more at some point anyway.

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  12. I did consider putting something like hot chocolate in, but decided it had to be a set of either/ors.

I guess liking the smell of coffee is like me liking the smell of fresh cigarette smoke in the open air. I don’t smoke, but somehow I like the smell of it. One of the few smells I can even pick up, let alone actually like.

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  13. Daddy or chips?

    Comment by innerbrat | September 21, 2006

  14. Yeah, right. When your big enough you’ll be too old. ;-)

    Comment by draich_goch | September 21, 2006

  15. That would be the half that are the same answers as you gave then.

    Comment by draich_goch | September 21, 2006

  16. It’s got to be coffee.

But, in the same way as there’s plenty of choice in coffee, there’s also plenty of room in tea. Whilst you’d never, ever catch me drinking Tetley’s or Typhoo or any of that crap, a cup of Lapsang or Darjeeling at the time right time is just as satisfying as that coffee hit.

But if it’s one drink before you shoot me time, it’s coffee. Every single time.

    Comment by paulatpingu | September 21, 2006

  17. Surely coffee is one of the worst things you can have when you’re hungover.

As for coffee versus tea. I love coffee, but I think tea is more refreshing. I still drink way more coffee than tea though.

    Comment by doctorvee | September 21, 2006

  18. I can be quite into tea at times and interested to try as many different brands, but I know it doesn’t compare to the proper ground coffee you can get from Whittards.

I have been drinking coffee a lot less now, mainly because it’s one of the very few foodstuffs that doesn’t agree with me in the morning.

Your poll makes a welcome change from those usually banded around the internets which have 2361 questions such as ‘which grade in high school did you so flunk out of?’. Needless to say I don’t spend my time answering them.

    Comment by comedyjim | September 21, 2006

  19. Your poll makes a welcome change from

Actually, I use a lot of the above questions as icebreakers in conversation. Especially good for compatibility stuff, don’t think I could live witha dog lover, and a morning person would need to accede to my need for coffee.

It’s fun watching the numbers come in as well, although I suspect some are voting Tea just to spite me…

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  20. chips please. with vinegar.

    Comment by matgb | September 21, 2006

  21. Hot drink: don’t like either of ‘em.
Animals: don’t like either of them either.
    Theology: more complicated than that.
    Evening in: on a computer.
    Live Entertainment: mostly best avoided.
Baths and showers: should both be short, so I can spend my time doing something interesting.
Alcohol: don’t need my neurochemistry messing up more than it already is, thank you.
Change: is change. Other than that, it’s diverse and varied.

And yes, I know you said I had to choose one or the other, but I’m awkward.

    Comment by rho | September 22, 2006

  22. Can’t vote. That was either very short or something’s gone wrong.

  26. Interesting, except

    • weekend with culture
    • evening with a book
    • music as entertainment
    • politics as news

What a cultured community LJ is!

  27. I feel so shallow after filling that in, haha.

  28. Frankly, I’m disappointed by the lack of a “Daddy or chips?” question.

    Comment by caramel_betty | September 22, 2006

  29. I’m thinking I should ahve asked the weekend away one as Berlin or Ibiza, but it’s cool.

Not sure it’s LJ as a whole, just my self selected friends list.

    Comment by matgb | September 22, 2006

  30. YOu know I get 50% discount- if you lived closer I would be able to make this more readily availible to you.

i need to know soon when/if I’m seeing you- i would advise calling em tomorrow.

    Comment by faeriecween | September 23, 2006

  31. Daddy every time. He rocks and purchases me chips.

    Comment by faeriecween | September 23, 2006

  32. Ah but being awkward means that we now you’re not dead.
been worrying about you my lovely and I wasn’t sure whether you wished for space or for em to spam your email account with crap.

Shall i do you a mini poll just for you so you can tell em your preference?

    Comment by faeriecween | September 23, 2006

And you’re always welcome to spam me :)

    Comment by rho | September 23, 2006

  34. Simple: It’s not something I have a preference for, therefore it didn’t even occur to me.

All of the above havea “wrong” answer. What’s surprising me is how close many are to me. I’ll do a follow up when I’ve figured out what to do with it.

I’ve left the ones I wanted to say “both” to blank, because I’m mean ;)

  37. Ah, yeah, well, sometimes exceptions can be made. I don’t think. I don’t know.

Besides, my grandparents had dogs, they were ok, and it’s not that you don’t like cats…

    My lazy instincts kick in.

I suppose I ought to go before dog walking time, though.

BTW, you, having “poll” and “polls” is cheating!

    Comment by snapesbabe | March 31, 2007

  41. No, me having poll and polls is (I think) my only misstagging mess up.

    *looks at SB’s tag list*

    Yeah, glass houses ;-)

    Comment by matgb | March 31, 2007

  42. Oh, you LIKE my tagging cock-ups really :P LOL

    *sausages*

(with apologies to your veggieness) Mmmmm. Big fat meaty ones, that ooze down your chin when you bite into them…

    * slurp *
