Which Princess Bride Character are You?

You scored as James Bond, Agent 007. James Bond is MI6’s best agent, a suave, sophisticated super spy with charm, cunning, and a license’s to kill. He doesn’t care about rules or regulations and somewhat amoral. He does care about saving humanity though, as well as the beautiful women who fill his world. Bond has expensive tastes, a wide knowledge of many subjects, and his usually armed with a clever gadget and an appropriate one-liner. |

And, as usual, I’ve had to really hack at the code to get that to display, tables with defined width at 600px is really stupid given how popular 3-column layout is becoming…
At Mike’s, still, naturally. He’s asleep (snoring loudly), so I’ve got access to his computer as he’s not playing Neverinter Nights 2. Even managed to drag him to the pub earlier, despite ’s complete failure to turn up. Cavern in Raynes Park, not a bad little local really, and the music/theme is trad-rock, so at least I don’t want to kill the jukebox, merely tolerate it.
Went into Wimbledon this afternoon, basically for a wander, ended up in Books etc. Oops. (and others who share our taste in books)? I bought The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Ms Clarke, her collection of short storied that follow up from Strange and Norrell (and if you’re one of those that missed my earlier recommendations, just buy the damned book and read it, m’kay?). I’ve read the intro, and it looks great. I also saw that the new Alastair Reynolds hardback (Galactic North) is out. Which of course means the previous book is also out in paperback, and as I’d been resisting the temptation to buy that for months, I’m now about 50 pages into Pushing Ice. It’s looking good so far. There are those that dislike him, and I’ll admit Revelation Space was a difficult read if you’re not really keen on his sort of hard sci-fi/literary space opera (or whatever they’re calling it this week), but I liked it, and the follow ups were immense. I think I raved about Century Rain earlier in the year, if I didn’t, I meant to. Now, having been searching Amazon, I wonder why I even bother to go into bookstores, those prices are just stupid good. Oh, wait, I like bookshops, that’s why I go into them, being surrounded by books is great. I need to remember to join the local library…
Oh, pointed us at Tim’s latest project, I think I was supposed to reply to an email I missed, but there y’go. Ladies and gentlemen, we present: National Service, the follow up to Backing Blair. Nothing to see there yet, but it’ll be part of the ongoing thing. Also? Those wonderful MySociety types are working on a new site for the aformentioned Blair, allowing us to petition him directly. The first one of any use is the ID Cards are evil one. Longstanding readers know my objection is to the damned register, the cards are a smokescreen, but it’s still worth signing. Nice to see the Govt finally catching up to the idea that Crapita et al deliver useless websites, whereas small groups working on things as and when can do great things. Go sign.
G’night all.

Ok, not replying to the comment for hopefully obvious reasons, but… huh? The anonymous comment above really does make negative sense.

And I thank you for pointing it out, as my spam filter had caught the notification.
It’s a spam bot, it’s programmed to comment on any comment boxes it finds, and leave a link in the ‘name’ part of a standard blog comment box. As LJ doesn’t have standard comments, it instead just leaves a blank entry. Not that it would help, as anon’s can’t leave links on LJ anyway.
I’ll IP trace it, but odds are it was a ghosted machine that some poor mook doesn’t even know is loaded with bots and spyware.

Ah-ha! Someone else who reads Alastair Reynolds! I bought Century Rain when I was in Taunton a while ago. I remember reading Revelation Space when I should have been revising for my A-Levels…

Century Rain is cool, very nice concepts in it, and his writing has improved substantially.
I do wonder at the love-in in the reviews though, he reviews Grimwood in The Guardian, and Grimwood reviews him in the Guardian. Hmm, both positive. Still, I like both, so can’t complain.
